Growing up I always loved to be outside and as an adult, nothing has changed. One of my favorite places to visit has always been Steamboat Springs, and a great place called Strawberry Hot Springs. Hot springs have so many wonderful healing qualities there is really no wonder I have always gravitated towards them. This week we might have played hooky on Monday afternoon and enjoyed an afternoon in the hot springs that are about an hour from where we live. We spent the afternoon in nature, where I could clear my mind and take the time to take care of myself. I think we have been taught that self-care is selfish, but truly if you're not taking care of yourself who is? The truth is to help others, to show up, you have to take care of yourself, you have to slow down enough to breathe and take in the beauty.
We have pushed ourselves so much we are not only destroying the beauty but forgetting it even exists right in front of us. As I sat there Monday I could have thought about all the things I “should” be doing, or my never-ending to-do list, instead I remember how lush it was, how beautiful the water was, how my brain and body needed it. As well as how plants and animals don’t worry. Why do we, what has worrying ever done? I think it's time we focus on the beauty, the joy, and the peace around us. When you do that you will start to notice the magnificent shifts in your life.
I know Monday morning I was overwhelmed, I was worried about something that I can not force, and that the best thing I needed to do was let go, breathe and slow down. To take time to take in the beauty and remember that abundance, peace lives inside you. They always have.
It has taken me years to be able to do this, to let go, to finally realize that all I have to do is shift my thoughts too new pleasant thoughts. All you have to do is change the channel. Yes, at first it may not be easy, but it gets there, where the images (thoughts) that are running through your brain are filled with peace, joy, and beauty. Instead of filled with fear, anxiety, and worry.
The truth is it’s up to you to shift your thoughts, to take care of yourself, so what are you waiting for? The other way hasn’t worked so why do we keep doing it, what do you have to lose?
